Your own snippets, with formatting and blanks

Until now, the snippets behind “/” in a report belonged to the clinic alone: admins maintained them, and every vet wrote with the same set. The sentences only you write — your exam phrasing, your discharge lines, your signature — had nowhere to live. And the snippets that existed were plain text: no bold, no lists, and the __ the settings screen suggested for “fill this in” was just two underscores you had to hunt down by hand.

That changes.

Your snippets next to the clinic’s

Every user now keeps their own snippets in their own settings, on the same kind of screen as Company → Snippets. They are private to you: they move with you if you change clinics, and they leave with you if your account is removed.

In a report, type / and you see both sets. Each entry carries a badge — Mine or Clinic — so you always know whose wording you are inserting. The same shortcut can exist in both lists; the badge tells them apart. Record values and app results keep their own badges too.

Formatting that matches the document

Snippets are no longer plain text. You edit them in the real document editor, with a focused toolbar for bold, lists, headings and colour — not uploads, images, tables or AI. What you save is what inserts into the report.

A snippet without line breaks still drops in inline, inside the sentence you are writing, the way a patient’s name does. A snippet with paragraphs or a list inserts as blocks. The mode follows from the content; a small icon in the snippet editor shows which one you are writing.

Blanks you actually fill in

Mark a blank with __, typed yourself or through the Blank button in the snippet editor. After you insert the snippet, the first blank is already selected — type to replace it. Tab jumps to the next blank from that insert.

Any blank left anywhere in the document is highlighted while you edit (display only; it is never saved as a mark). Before you publish, you get a warning if one is still there, so __ stops ending up in the PDF.

One of those snippets can sign your PDFs

Pick any snippet you can insert — yours or the clinic’s — as your PDF signature, and it is added under every document you publish. Switch or turn it off any time, under the document or in your snippet settings, without losing the snippet. (More on letterhead and the automatic signature in Your clinic's letterhead, on every PDF.)

Good to know

  • Clinic snippets stay admin-maintained and account-private, as before.
  • Personal snippets are yours alone — not shared with the team yet.
  • Variables filled from the record ({patient}, {age}) are a separate piece of work; blanks are for the gaps you type into by hand.
  • Existing plain-text clinic snippets keep working; they were converted so formatting and blanks can land on top.
